A Victorian sterling silver spirit hip flask, Birmingham 1868 by Robert Thornton (reg. Jul 1866)

of curved rectangular form with curved corners, the flat screw cap with a retaining chain attachment. The front engraved with a coat of arms within foliate scroll mantling, a crest of a demi lion rampant above and motto below Pro Rege. Marked to each side only.

Length – 11.8 cm / 4.6 inches

Weight – 125 grams / 4.02ozt

The arms, crest and motto are for Clan MacFie, Scotland

Thornton was primarily a maker of card cases
