A late 19th century Chinese export silver pint mug

ing dynasty. Of tapering cylindrical form with moulded rims, the handle formed as a Chinese dragon with saw cut and engraved frills and applied wrought work horns. The body with chased decoration of elongated hexagonal panels, alternating between figural scenes with trees, alongside rats amidst fruiting vine, battle scenes with figures on horseback, duck and other birds amidst flowering lily pads, and birds upon branches of flowering prunus, all reserved with jasmine flower pattern. Double skinned gilt interior. Marked underneath with artisan mark 慎昌 (SHEN CHANG), numeral 90, and retailer’s mark WH.
