'THE COFFEEHOUSE' c.1750
A fine series depicting the interior of a coffee house and its patrons. A set of 6 copper engraved card-backed, cut away sheets combining to create an early peep show, [105×142 mm] with original hand-colouring;

The cut aways depict; [1] an aristocratic house interior with richly decorated furniture, a woman on the left carries a bottle and a glass. In the centre, two dogs play; [2] in the centre, two men sitting on a table smoke pipes. A woman stands on the left side, next to a finely decorated chest of drawers. The walls are decorated with floral motifs in red and yellow and artworks in golden frames; [3] a room with a vault, at the centre of which a baroque-style chandelier is hanging; [4] rich floral decorations on the side-walls of the vaulted room. On the left is a table and a religious painting. On the right, a piece of furniture with decorations and bas-reliefs; [5] in the centre of the vaulted space, a woman is carrying a baby, and on the right, a kid is playing; [6] in the perspective centre, a luxuriously decorated door opens on a balcony with columns, showing the outside view of the garden. On the left side stands a woman and a child. On both sides of the door, two framed religious paintings.
