'A GARDEN VIEW' c.1750
A fine series depicting a Garden Scene. A set of 6 copper engraved card-backed, cut away sheets combining to create an early peep show, [105×142 mm] with original hand-colouring;

The cut aways depict; [1] on both sides, garden architecture and trees, a woman carries a tray, and a man is offering a bunch of flowers to the woman in the following sheet; [2] a perspective of trees in line and two flowers beds. In the centre, a woman in an aristocratic red dress and, in the background, on the right, a gardener is planting a tree; [3] a pair of symmetrical arched arcades frame an elegant garden with curated bushes and a classical-styled fountain in the centre, with sculptures of Triton and other mythological figures. Two men are taking care of the garden; [4] a view in distance of two symmetrical architectures with small towers, a woman gardening and a man to the right. Inscribed in lower margin 'C.P.MAj. ... F... M. Eng. exc. A.V.' ; [5] a central portal closes the garden's architecture, in which are arch-shaped hedges and tall trees in line; [6] a garden landscape, with a fountain in the centre, classical architecture and possibly a labyrinth in the background.
