George Davison Reid (d.1933)

A collection of silver gelatin prints (64), printed later c.1960s, depicting various London street scenes and London landmarks, image sizes 19.5 x14.5cm, sheet sizes 25.5 x20cm.

This collection consists of prints by George Davison Reid, whose project to photograph London produced over 700 images between 1920 and 1933. He supported the Society of Antiquaries of London, which promoted the study of London's architecture. The collection includes many photos of London's churches and landmarks, including the Tower of London and the Palace of Westminster. Reid was also fascinated by the vibrant London life and in his street scenes included people and traffic, bringing the surrounding architecture to life, as shown in the prints depicting the Billingsgate Market, Bow Lane and Ludgate Hill with the railway bridge.
