Rinaldo and Armida
oil on copper, oval
44 x 56.5 cm (17 1/4 x 22 1/4 in.)
The present oil derives from Rinaldo and Armida, circa 1601, by Annibale Carracci, now in the National Museum of Capodimonte. Painted for Odoardo Farnese, Duke of Parma, it illustrates an episode from Canto XVI of Tasso's Gerusalemme liberata featuring Rinaldo and Armida.
