Michael Westmoreland (XX)

Michael Westmoreland (XX)

A group of four panoramas by the British photographer Michael Westmoreland,1980s. Comprising: A PANORAMA OF HONG KONG depicting Hong Kong from Connaught Tower (looking East), a single-part Ilford cibachrome print forming a continuous panoramic view measuring 144 x 1230mm, signed “Michael Westmoreland” in the lower margin and with the photographer’s label on the verso; PANORAMA OF TOWER OF BRIDGE, LONDON, c.1980, a single-part Kodak colour print forming a continuous panoramic view measuring 266 x 965mm, with the photographer’s label on the verso; PANORAMA VIEW OF LONDON THAMES, a single-part black and white photograph forming a continuous panoramic view measuring 168 x 784mm, with the photographer’s label on the verso; and a PANORAMA VIEW OF TRAFALGAR SQUARE, LONDON, a single-part cibachrome print forming a continuous panoramic view measuring 199 x 792mm.

Note: It is thought Michael was the only photographer in the word ever to shoot colour transparencies with Cirkut panoramic cameras. Already a well established panoramic photographer, a chance comment from a colleague led him to a supply of Agfachrome aerial transparency roll film which was about to be discarded. Shooting panoramas up to 360 degrees in full colour gave results in amazing detail and Cibachrome copies were produced with his home-made contact printing system, and with no loss of quality.
