A George III sterling silver teapot, London 1819 by Jospeh Craddock and William Ker Reid (reg. 8th Jun 1812)

Of tall baluster form, raised on four scroll feet with rocaille mask junctions,the body profusely decorated with embossed C scrolls, flower heads, foliate scrolls, scales, punch work all against a matted ground. One side with a embossed orientalist scene of a camel at rest with a putto riding it pouring water from a jug into a dish held up by another putto, the obverse with a cartouche flanked by putto grasping acanthus leaves, engraved to the centre with the crest of a moor’s head and shoulders above mirrored initials EME in flourished cursive script. The hinged slightly domed lid with embossed decoration surmounted by a detachable flower and leaf sprig finial. The spout with acanthus decoration and flower heads and fruiting vine with a rocailse shell junction. The later fibre C scroll handle with scroll junctions. Fully marked underneath and part-marked to lid, the finial apparently unmarked. Height – 25.5 cm / 10 inches
