A George IV Irish sterling silver 'zoomorphic' teapot, Dublin 1820 by William Nolan

Of inverted baluster form raised upon four cast lion paw and matted acanthus feet. The body profusely decorated with embossed foilate C scrolls, flower bouquets against a matted ground. A C scroll cartouche to either side above a rococo scallop shell, one side with a quartered coat of arms in a shaped shield, the other with a crest of a wildman’s head erased, below the motto ‘nec vi nec astutia’. The handle formed as a classical dolphin with husks, ivory insulators leading to matted double scallop shell junction to the top and and an acanthus scroll to the base. The slightly domed lid with acanthus border, decorated with an embossed band of stylised scroll flower cluster surmounted by detachable cast flower sprig finial. The spout formed as a wolf's head, leading to an assemblage of foiliate C scrolls, acanthus leaves, a scallop shell, either side flanked by a classical dolphin the tail entwining with the C Scrolls. Fully marked underneath, the lid unmarked, duty mark to handle and to finial.
