Silver gelatin print, printed c.1950, flush-mounted to card, image size 19 x 24cm, card size 23.5 x 27cm, titled 'National Monument' and initalled 'E.W.' in ink in an unknown hand (likely Daniel Masclet's) verso. This print was mounted by Daniel Masclet.

Edward Weston enjoyed a lively exchange of letters and prints with French photographer, curator and publisher Daniel Masclet from the late 1940s through the mid-1950s. Masclet, interested in introducing Weston's photographs to a European audience, organised an exhibition of his work at the Place Vendôme in Paris in 1949. With the help of his sons Brett and Cole, Weston oversaw the production of over 100 prints for this exhibition, and continued to send prints to Masclet into 1950. He also took the opportunity to introduce Masclet to the work of his son Brett, writing in one of his letters, "I think you will be impressed. Brett is one of America's top photographers. He's had a hard row to live with me as a father, but he's done it."
