TWO A BRASS LOTAS (WATER CONTAINERS), India, 20th century, one lota adapted into a lamp and of typical globular shape, resting on a flattened circular foot, rising to narrow shoulders and a short flared and flattened rim, the exterior engraved with concentric thin lines throughout the body, wired and adapted into a lamp, one line of inscription to one side, fitted with a frilled cream white lampshade, 58.5cm high including the shade; the other of typical globular shape, resting on a convex base, rising to narrow shoulders and a short everted flattened rim, the exterior divided into two decorative registers, the top engraved with concentric thin lines, the bottom engraved with scattered diagonal lines creating a hatched ground reminiscent of animal fur, 21.5cm diam. and 28.5cm high.
