EIGHT POLYCHROME-PAINTED POTTERY DISHES WITH AVIARY AND VEGETAL MOTIFS
Late Qajar Iran, late 19th - early 20th century
Comprising eight pottery dishes, each of a slightly different size, including three serving plates of shallow rounded shape with raised walls, and five dishes of circular shape with flattened everted rims, all painted in cobalt blue, copper green, and manganese purple, and decorated with foliage, vegetal stems, and plump birds mostly located on the rim, on the cavetto or in the central medallion, their exterior plain, the blue and white dish with an ownership medallion in the centre reading Commissioned by the Illustrious Mirza Sadr al-Mulk (?), the base of this and another dish marked with makers' signatures and dated respectively 1314 AH / 1896 AD and 1328 AH / 1910 AD, the largest dish 23cm diam. and the smallest dish 19.2cm diam.
