♦ A fine and rare Chinese doucai 'lotus' water pot, Qing dynasty, Qianlong mark and of the period
清乾隆 闘彩纏枝蓮紋水盂 青花《大清乾隆年製》篆書款

The small water pot of gently tapering ovoid form, finely painted with iron-red bats hovering over colourful lotus blooms sprouting from polychrome stems, enclosed within bands of ruyi and petal lappets, the base with a six-character Qianlong seal mark in underglaze-blue

See doucai water pot of this design, also bearing a Qianlong seal mark, illustrated by John Ayers in 'The Baur Collection', vol. 4, Geneva, 1974, pl. A571. Another from the collection of Mr. And Mrs. Albert Nipon of Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, was included in the exhibition 'Qing Mark and Period Monochromes and Enamelled Wares', S. Marchant & Son, London, 1981, and illustrated in the catalogue, no. 49.
