A George III Irish provincial silver coffee pot, Cork circa 1760 by John Nicholson (active 1756-1824)
of baluster form upon a domed circular foot, the shell capped scroll spout opposite a wooden C scroll handle pined to shell and scroll sockets. The hinged double domed lid surmounted by an artichoke finial. The body with contemporaneous embossed decoration of bouquets of flowers, foliate scrolls and an architrave reserved with stippling, each forming a symmetrical cartouche to either side. One side engraved with a crest of upon a chapeau a lion passant. Engraved scratch weight underneath 32 – 14. Marked underneath only with maker mark and STERLING.
