An early George III Irish provincial silver ‘hook end’ soup ladle, Limerick circa 1760 by Samuel Johns (free. 10 Sep 1756, d. 1795)
The scalloped and chased shell form bowl with a flat chased heel. The handle with flat chased decoration of a vacant rocaille cartouche above foliage and rocaille scrolls. Marked to the lower stem with maker mark SJ in cursive script with lion rampant between twice (Bennett C.12 n. 46) with STERLING in between.
