A fine Japanese netsuke of a rat by Sakai Masakiyo (1875-1955), Edo-Meiji period, 19th century

The finely carved wood netsuke in the form of a rat coiled into a ball in a Masanao composition, depicted with finely carved paws and inlaied eyes made from dark wood or horn, the himotoshi is formed between the right hind paw and the snout which the rat is scratching itselt, signed Masakiyo on the underside
