A George I Britannia standard silver coffee pot, London 1715 by Jonah Clifton (reg. 25 Nov 1703)
Of tapering cylindrical ‘lighthouse’ form, the curved spout with a moulded hinged spout cap at a right angle to a wooden C scroll handle pinned to tubular sockets, leading to a hinged domed lid surmounted by a compressed knop finial. The front with a first half of the 18th century engraved coat of arms in a spinsters lozenge reserved with rustication and foliate scrolls. The lid engraved with a crest of a stork with wings expanded. Fully marked to the right of handle and the lid marked with maker’s mark and lion’s head erased only, the spout cap unmarked.
