A George III Old Sheffield Silver Plate tankard, Sheffield circa 1770 probably Tudor and Leader

Tapering cylindrical form upon a spreading cavetto foot, central applied girdle. The C scroll handle with heart shaped terminal, the double domed lid raised by a pressed acanthus scroll thumbpiece with moulded and shaped hinge. Wooden inset underside lined. Marked with a journeyman’s mark underneath heart shaped terminal. Seam to back.

Height – 20.6 cm / 8.1 inches

A contemporaneous drawing of a tankard of this exact same form is illustrated in Bradbury, F., Old Sheffield Plate, (1912), page 346.
