The Beatles

Scarce set of signatures by George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and John Lennon on a loose page removed from a book of religious hymns, humorously inscribed "Best Wishes from the Beatles [Luke II]" in George's hand, Paul and John have added fake dates of birth and death next to their signatures (1866-1952 and 1903-1482 respectively) as a joke, the page additionally signed by David Magnus (an assistant to the photographer Dezo Hoffman) and another one (Jimmy Watson?), bifolium now split in half, each page 21 x 13.6cm.

PROVENANCE: the signatures were obtained by the vendor after the famous performance at Stowe School, Buckinghamshire, 4 April 1963. The pages are from one of the hymn books used by the pupils.

***Stowe School was a prestigious all-boys public school. The event came about after one of the pupils, David Moores from Liverpool, contacted Brian Epstein to see if the Beatles would consider performing. Epstein was impressed enough with Moores’ approach that he agreed to the booking.
