Provenance:
By repute, lots 229 and 230 were from the collection of an aristocratic Russian family, formerly living in St Petersburg. The family was forced to flee Russia during the 1917 Revolution and relocated to France. Like so many who were forced to flee quickly, small portable items such as jewellery and objects of virtu were the only valuables the family was able to take with them when they escaped. Thence by decent.
