A monumental mid-20th century Thai silver bowl or wine cooler, Chiang Mai circa 1950
Of rounded circular form upon three open work cast bracket feet. The body with embossed high relief decoration of figures from the Ramakien with Phra Ram on his chariot, the horses ridden by Hanuman going into battle with the monkey army with Totsagan on his chariot lead by leogryphs. The obverse centred with a scene of Hanuman and Suvannamaccha, flanked by Ravana abducting Sita form her hermitage and of Rama chasing Maricha as a golden deer. All with appropriate embossed forestry and waterways, all between bands of trailing foliate scrolls to the top and stylised acanthus leaves to the base. Scratched to the base 100% and with characters.
