3 works in one including Fabulae Aesopi Graece et Latine, nunc denuo selectae…, double column, woodcut illustrations, ink stain to S8 and B1, occasional spotting, some pages stained, annotations in a later hand to front pastedown, and marginalia in a near contemporary hand, Joannes Janssonius, Amsterdam, 1649; Leges Nobilissimi ac amplissimi senatus Rigensis de officiis docentium in schola Rigensi, Latin text, small woodcut device on title page & initial, title a little dusty, Samuel Lorentz Froelich, Riga, 1722 & Leges nobilissimi ac amplissimi senatus Rigensis de officiis discipulorum in schola Rigensi, Latin & German text, 2 woodcut initials, final leaf dusty, Samuel Lorentz Froelich, Riga, 1722, shelfmark and stamp of the Earls of Macclesfield’s Library, with their arms and motto ‘sapere aude’, 18th century speckled calf, spine gilt with Morocco label, worm hole to spine end, a.e.r., 8vo.

Provenance. The library of the Earls of Macclesfield. Also in Sotheby’s sale “The Library of The Earls of Macclesfield Removed from Shirburn Castle. Part Twelve”, 2 October 2004 (lot 4308).

***First work. Rare bilingual (Greek & Latin in parallel columns) illustrated edition of fables of Aesop and Avianus, 1st published in 1626 for use in the schools of Holland and edited by the Leiden Greek professor Daniel Heinsius (1580-1655).

Second & third work. 2 short collections of regulations drawn up by the Senate of Riga governing the teaching in schools.
