A mid-20th century Ceylonese (Sri Lankan) silver lime box, Kandy circa 1950

Of shaped oblong form with a hinged gently domed lid, all upon four paw feet. The lid with bicephalous birds (gandaberunda) and Kirtimukha masks, amidst foliate scrolls, a oval cartouche engraved “with best wishes from Methodist College Education Society”. The sides with Sinha lions and elephants. The underside flat chased with a mandala and foliate scrolls. Fabric lined interior. Marked underneath with standard mark S.S.
