A CARVED SANDALWOOD LIDDED BOX South India, 19th century Of rectangular shape, the domed lid hinged onto the body, the finely carved decoration on the lid consisting of two concentric frames filled with sprouting vegetal tendrils, rosette roundels and a central oval with a bird with its tail raised, possibly a peacock, the body with 16 roundels with parrots perched on blooming rosettes, the base plain, 26cm x 9.5cm.
