A pair of early 20th century Chinese export silver pedestal bowls or comports

Qing dynasty. The bowl of circular form with scalloped rim upon a pedestal foot formed as a Chinese dragon upon a domed circular base with cavetto edge. The sides of the bowl with chased decoration of various panels; birds within bamboo, Chinese dragons amidst clouds, fruiting peach trees, and figures within a village. The base with chased decoration to resembles waves. Marked to the foot rim with artisan mark 寶生 (BAO SHENG), and with retailer’s mark WH90. (2)

Diameter – 16.9 cm / 6.6 inches

Weight – 861 grams / 27.68 ozt

Bao Sheng

A prominent workshop producing a broad selection of vessels with various patterns of decoration, one that appears to have only supplied the Wang Hing Store retailer, which operated in Canton from the 1860’s, and also from Hong Kong in the early 20th century.
