Iran, 10th - 12th century

Comprising a rounded pottery bowl, resting on a short circular foot, the interior painted in black under a transparent glaze against an off-white ground, decorated with two intersecting stylised crosses, one with curved lines and dots, the latter with almond-shaped terminals imitating foliage, geometric fretworks bands below the rim and a turquoise line around the rim, and the upper section of the exterior covered in turquoise glaze, 20.5cm diam. and 7.8cm high; and a miniature pottery vase, of compressed globular shape, the white slip-covered body decorated with a black pseudo-Kufic calligraphic band around the shoulders, 6cm diam. and 5.5cm high.
