The original edition in German appeared in 1812—14. Pages 289-577 of volume 2 are devoted to the languages of the Caucasus. Klaproth (1783-1835) was a German Orientalist and explorer who became a fellow of the Academy of Sciences at St. Petersburg in 1804. His works represent the most important early surveys of Oriental languages.
