Jamini Roy known for his unique style that combined elements of traditional folk art with modernist aesthetics. He began his artistic training at the Government School of Art in Kolkata. However, Inspired by the simplicity and directness of folk art, Roy began to develop his own style, characterised by bold lines, and a focus on the essential forms of his subjects.
The works were notable for their visual language, influenced by the Kalighat patachitra tradition, a popular style of painting from Bengal. He simplified and stylised his figures, using thick lines and minimal details. His use of earthy tones and natural pigments further contributed to the distinctiveness of his paintings.
