Photographica including Part 1 of the John Foster Olympus Collection

Lot 109

Olympus Pen-W Pseudo "Gold" Version, Hand Polished by John Foster.

Olympus Pen-W Pseudo "Gold" Version, Hand Polished by John Foster. #100567. With fixed 25mm f2.8 E Zuiko-W lens. Shutter firing, signs of normal use.

Unhappy with the poor quality black paint originally on this example, John decided that as some brass was already starting to show through he would remove it all. This he carefully did, leaving the brass body with what he referred to as a "gold" effect finish, making for a unique, but still perfectly usable camera.

Historic Note: In his book "Olympus Viewfinder Pen Cameras", John did speculate about there being a gold plated Pen-W, possibly released for an Olympus anniversary, but no example has surfaced to date.

Provenance: The John Foster Olympus Collection
