Chiswick Auctions is delighted to present our Winter Design and Contemporary Auction, to be held on Tuesday the 9th of December. Our largest sale to date features a remarkable selection of works spanning from the Aesthetic Period to the 21st Century. With an incredible single-owner collection of Louis Wain Cubist “Lucky” Cats, George Tinworth’s rare ‘Four Seasons’ plaques and several mice groups, and a group of Art Deco compacts from the Capstick Dale collection. In contemporary ceramics and studio pottery consigned to the sale are works by Guido Gambone, John Ward, Lucie Rie, Richard Batterham, Janet Leach, Shoji Hamada, Bernard Leach, Clive Bowen, Michael Cardew, a Japanese landscape vase by William Marshall, a fabulous model of a sleeping lioness by Alexandre Bigot, and five works by Katharine Pleydell Bouverie.
Furniture highlights include a selection of pieces from Stella McCartney’s personal collection, showcasing her discerning taste and fashionable eye. Other highlights include a single-owner collection of Frank Lloyd Wright Taliesin furniture, a magnificent Angelo Mangiarotti ‘Eros’ dining table and a rare Arne Jacobsen ‘Swan’ sofa. Other important pieces of 20th Century Design come from makers such as Charles and Ray Eames, Verner Panton, Pierre Jeanneret, Eileen Grey, Le Corbusier and Marcel Breuer. Early 20th century furniture includes such names as C.F.A. Voysey, J&J Kohn, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Eugene Gaillard.
Amongst various pieces of art glass in the sale is a unique bowl, created by master glass-engraver Peter Dreiser, which demonstrates incredible craftsmanship and has fabulous provenance. Complementing these highlights is a thoughtfully curated selection of posters and contemporary Art, including several works by Bruce High Quality and Paul McCarthy.
