This Spring, Chiswick Auctions presents an outstanding array of vintage, modern, and contemporary photography, going under the hammer on Thursday, 22 May 2025.
The sale features a diverse selection of prints from the 19th century through to today, and spotlights a number of iconic works with distinguished provenance, including 42 lots From a Private Collection, assembled over more than three decades with instinct, emotion, and a deep appreciation for the photographic medium. In addition, the sale features vintage fashion photographs from the collection of model Marie Helvin taken by David Bailey, her husband at the time of their sittings; an early print of Bert Hardy's iconic 1948 "Gorbals Boys" photograph, given to his printing business partner in the 1960s; and an interesting group of mid-century works from the collection of French photographer, curator, and publisher Daniel Masclet (1892-1969), including an illuminating set of correspondence between Masclet and American photographer Ansel Adams. Other highlights include a beautiful albumen print of Gustave Le Gray's 1856 view of "The Brig on the Water", a rare 1975 vintage print of Helmut Newton's "Rue Aubriot"; an impressive oversized print of William Klein's 1958 film strips from "Broadway by Light", and many more.
