Chiswick Auctions is pleased to present our live Old Master & 19th Century Art sale on Tuesday 7th July, set to coincide with London’s ‘Old Master Week’. The sale will offer a wide selection of important paintings, drawings, prints, and frames from major regional and artistic movements over the last 500 years.
Following our successful performance with Italian artworks this year, we are offering a strong Italian selection of paintings and drawings. Leading the sale is a magnificent pair of oils on canvas by the renowned early 18th century Italian artist, Stefano Pozzi (1699-1768), the official painter of the Vatican Papal Palaces from 1758. We will also be offering a rare work on paper by Lorenzo Todini (1646-1689), famed for his elegant floral still lifes, and a large-scale oil on canvas by the late 17th century Italian female artist, Elisabetta Marchioni (act. 1700).
The sale also includes a rediscovered painting by the renowned Dutch artist, Roelof Koets the Elder (1592-1654), who was known to collaborate with Pieter Claesz (1596/1597-1660). This painting has come from a UK private collection and has not been on the public market for at least 60 years.
Another rediscovery includes a large oil painting of the Cornish coast by the famed American artist, William Trost Richards (1833-1905). An admirer of the Hudson River School, Trost looked towards the Pre-Raphaelite movement found in Great Britain, travelling there on multiple occasions throughout his career.
Whether you're a seasoned collector or new to the world of art auctions, this carefully assembled sale offers an opportunity to acquire exceptional works from major private collections.
