The Design Department at Chiswick Auctions are delighted to present an important selection of 20th and 21st Century Design, bringing together works that celebrate the innovation and craftsmanship of the leading creative figures in modern and contemporary decorative arts.
Highlights of the sale include the second instalment of the collection of Mo Amelia Tietenbaum, author and recognised specialist in the work of Jean-Michel Frank and COMTE. Following the success of the first offering, this section features important works by the aforementioned JMF and COMTE, including a pair of guéridons, club armchairs, and parchment-covered ‘Croisillon’ table lamps. Further highlights include two rare Jean-Michel Frank ‘Mica’-covered tables from another private collection.
The sale also presents a single owner collection from an international private collector, featuring important names including Fontana Arte, Gio Ponti, Josef Frank, Joe Colombo, Bruno Mathsson, Jonathan Saunders, Lella and Massimo Vignelli, and Matt Paweski. Among the highlights is a bespoke charred oak and bronze dining suite by Valentin Loellmann, acquired directly from the studio.
The ceramics section brings together works by leading figures in studio pottery and contemporary practice, including Jennifer Lee, Gordon Baldwin, Carol McNicoll, Richard Slee, Tim Fluck, Richard Batterham, Katharine Pleydell-Bouverie, John Ward, William Marshall, and Peter Hayes.
Completing the sale is a selection of British studio glass, featuring works by Peter Layton, founder of London Glassblowing, Louis Thompson, and Paul Barcroft.
