James started working for a major regional auction house in the West Country, as a Saleroom Manager and Valuer. Here James developed his knowledge of art and objects, as well as undertaking probate and insurance valuations and auctioneering on a regular basis.
After developing a passion and interest for pictures, he relocated to London and worked for Bonhams for over 5 years. After initially starting in the Prints & Multiples department, James would later become a key member of the company’s principal Modern British & Irish Art department, having a significant involvement in some of the department’s most successful sales to date. The department grew exponentially during James’ time there, where he oversaw significant single-owner collections and the sale over museum-quality objects and art.
As Head of Modern British & Irish Art, James is responsible for the continued development and success of the department’s three auctions a year.
