Chiswick Auctions recorded its first ever white glove sale of watches on 24 March 2022, and only the second ever in the history of the company (the first being a single owner collection for the Islamic and Indian Art department last year). The Single Owner Watches Collection of 100 lots completely sold out and made 210% of its low estimate.
After 3 weeks online, Tomas Aznar, Head of Watches mounted a packed schedule of 4 days of viewing in our Chiswick Saleroom, for clients drawn from across the UK, France, Spain and Italy. Alongside the Single Owner Collection were 182 watches in a separate sale, which were also very well viewed, and which achieved excellent results, including a Patek Philippe which sold for £43,750 (including buyer’s premium).
On the day itself, with bidders in the room, on the telephone and across the internet platforms, Chiswick Auctions sold watches to Australia, Canada, the United States, France, Switzerland, Hong Kong and many other countries.
Head of Watches Tomas Aznar comments: “It was a challenge cataloguing, opening and checking every single watch inside and out, checking all the mechanism and parts, but we knew that with the right knowledge and effort, a well curated auction will provide spectacular results”.
We sold 100% of the lots, 210% sold by value. Almost 40% of them went over the high estimate, such as the rare Laco military watch from the Second World War, which sold for almost double the high estimate, a rare Reverso Tavannes, which sold for almost three times the high estimate, the incredible Rolex 5513, which sold for more than three times the high estimate, or the rare square water resistant Omega worthy of any good watch collector, which sold for four and half times the high estimate.
We are now consigning for our next Watches auction on 30 June 2022. If you are interested in a valuation or consigning to the sale, please contact Tomas: tomas.aznar@chiswickauctions.co.uk
