From Ceramics to Violins and everything in between

Next week is set to be an exciting one with two Specialist sales taking place.

Ceramics and Glass will be held on Tuesday 13th October starting at 11am and

Violins and Musical Instruments on Wednesday 14th October starting at 1pm.

The Ceramics sale will include a selection of interesting lots including a fine pair of Swansea plates from the Burdett-Coutts service, circa 1816 (Lot 27). Both are almost certainly painted in the Sims workshop in London with an elaborate basket of colourful flowers within a fancy gilt band. It is thought the Burdett-Coutts service was commissioned by the banker Thomas Coutts in celebration of his marriage to the actress Harriet Mellon in 1816. Following the death of Angela Burdett-Coutts, 249 pieces from this service were sold by Christie's in 1922.
