Formula 1 steering wheel used by Ralf Schumacher

Signed by Schumacher and Jenson Button

Chiswick Auctions is delighted to offer for auction an incredibly rare Williams Racing Team Formula One steering wheel, signed by two of F1’s biggest names.

The steering wheel was used during the 2000 F1 Season by Ralf Schumacher (Williams) and is offered in a wonderful unrestored condition.

Chiswick Auctions Motoring specialist Phillip Knapper, said: “The production of F1 steering wheels is complex and incredibly expensive, owing to the fact that all of the features, including even the positioning of buttons and switches, had to be tailored specifically for each driver”.

The steering wheel was acquired by the current owner at a gala dinner auction hosted by the Williams Racing Team in London in 2000. The fundraising event was held in aid of underprivileged children in Rio de Janeiro and built on the historical endeavours of the late great F1 legend Ayrton Senna.

The event was attended by Sir Frank Williams, Sir Patrick Head and Jenson Button, along with other members of the Williams Racing Team and the racing community. It will be offered in a spring sale of special Motor Cars & Automobilia by Chiswick Auctions at Ham Polo Club in Richmond on April 27, 2019. It is estimated to fetch £20,000-30,000.

The motoring sale also includes a range of 30 specially-curated classic cars, with English marques amongst the highlights, e.g. Bentley, Austin-Healey and Bentley.
