Specialist Wine & Spirits with Antiques & Interiors Tuesday 13th May

We were very excited to conduct the first of many Speciality Wine & Spirits auctions. The sale room was full of wine enthusiasts many wanting to fill up their cellars for a summer of parties while others were after some seriously good wine to put in their collections. Our regular clientele had consigned a good and varied collection of 50 large lots of fine wines and spirits. We were so happy with the results that we have already set the next Special Wine & Spirits auction date for your diary Tuesday 22nd July and suggest you look through your cellars and wine cabinets and bring in lots for the next sale, we are also looking for all sorts wine and cocktail collectables and ephemera. We should also mention we had a fine selection of good Whiskey that have gone to very good homes - we are wondering how many will be opened this evening?

Lot 305 - Eleven bottles of 2001 Puligny Montrachet 1st Cru (Les Combettes), sold together with ten bottles of 2001 Montrachet 1st Cru, Les Pucelles. (21) Estimate £170 - 210 sold for £600 hammer price.

In the sale we also had a large selection of Fine Printed Books and Manuscripts for which we have a large following with the third part of the Hans Fellner collection coming up on Wednesday 25 June at 1pm.
It is hard to select any particular section of our sale to highlight as we had a very wide selection of Jewellery, Rugs and good furniture including Art Noveau dining tables and chairs.
The one stand out painting of interest was lot 440 - J Steven Dews (late 20th Century), oil on canvas, marine scape, study of pleasure yachts, racing off Southern England, signed. 60 x 90cm. Sold for £5200 hammer price.

More about maritime artist Dews …

"Born in Yorkshire in 1949, Steven Dews now lives between Australia and his home near to England's southern coast. His meteoric rise to success from distinctly unpromising beginnings should be an inspiration to all young artists. From being the boy who failed his Art 'A' level, his work has now placed him at the pinnacle of the marine art world.
Confirmation of his pre-eminence came in the Sotheby's sale of Maritime Art in London in 1999, where his original, entitled 'Off Cowes', sold for the phenomenal price of £89,500 ($140,000)."
