For this season of Asian Art sales, Chiswick Auctions will feature a wide and diverse range of East Asian works of art, from China, Japan, Korea and across the Himalayas. Many of these works are from private collections, including a selection of fine ceramics from the renowned collection of Mr. Basil and the Hon. Mrs. Nellie Ionides. We will also feature works from other private collections including a fine and impressive Chinese carved greystone head of the Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva.. We are also offering an impressive Korean screen depicting the eight Confucian virtues, again from a private collection in London as well as an exciting range of Japanese works of art including woodblock prints and in particular a large incense burner, (a tsuri-koro). Asian I sale will include mainly Chinese works of Art from various private collections, alongside some Korean and Sino-Tibetan works. Among the highlights featured is lot 101, a rare pair of Korean embroidered ‘Sun and Moon, Birds and Flowers’ four-panel screens dating from the Joseon Period and with impeccable provenance from the distinguished Private Collection of G. St. G. M. Gompertz and thence by descent to Richard and Elizabeth Gompertz. We will also offer a small collection of blue and white ceramics from the distinguished private collection of Sir Hugh and Lady Cortazzi. The sale also features a large collection of early bronzes and jades from the Essex Collection of Early Chinese Art, British Private Collection, where some of the collection is now housed in the National Museum of Wales. As a continuation from the last sales where a painting of Gourds by Wu Changshuo achieved £42,500 (8th February, 2020, lot 597), we will offer further lots from a French Private Collection formed in Hong Kong during the 1960’s-1980’s, including paintings and ceramics. Further highlights include some outstanding examples of ceramics, textiles panels, jades, ceramics and bronzes.

We are delighted to offer a great range of works of art, including Chinese, Japanese and South East Asian. Featuring some outstanding Chinese works of art, many of which come from private collections. This includes a rare cloisonné kundika from the Ming dynasty period, alongside ceramics, furniture, bronzes, jades and lacquer, representing all periods of Chinese history.
The Japanese section includes highlights such as a silvered model of an eagle from the Meiji period, alongside a pair of magnificent screens dating to the Edo period. Furthermore, we have a wonderful section on Tibetan works of art and a section on Burmese works of art which is to be offered at auction on behalf of Prospect Burma to benefit educational scholarships.
