Safavid Iran, 17th and 18th centuries

Comprising three calligraphic compositions, one with 4ll. of black ink thuluth script and minimal illuminated borders, the text a passage from the Shi'a Imam Ali’s collection of sermons, the Nahj al-Balagha, signed Mohammad Reza, dated 1089 AH (1678), set in blue borders, mounted, framed and glazed, 9.6cm x 22cm; a prayer with 2ll. of black ink thuluth script on brown paper, set in black borders, mounted, framed and glazed, 12cm x 23.5cm, 36cm x 46.3cm including the frame; and another, similar, the text against a cross-hatched brown field, signed Maqsud Al Tabrizi, with several library stamps, 8cm x 24.5cm, 34cm x 50cm including the frame.
