A CHINESE 'FAMILLE ROSE' PORCELAIN LIDDED BOX AND SMALL CUP MADE FOR THE IRANIAN EXPORT MARKET
Guangdong (Canton), China, late 19th century

Comprising a lidded box, of cylindrical shape, resting on a thin circular foot, painted in polychromes with prominent hues of pink, green, orange and black, the background to the decoration on the sides fully gilt, the exterior divided in two cusped medallions, one with an interior scene with a group of Chinese men and a woman, and the latter with birds amidst nature and a lush floral bloom, the lid presenting another Chinese interior scene with the women of the house parting goodbye with a literati civil officer, 7cm high and 10cm diam.; and a small cup, with similar decorations, the interior scene livened by two children playing, 4cm high and 7cm diam.
