Yeats (William Butler)

Yeats (William Butler)

Typed letter signed ('WB Yeats') to playwright Ashley Duke, reading in part "I send you my play 'The Herne's Egg' and apologise for the long delay. I live a little way out of Dublin and that makes it extraordinarily difficult to get a typist. I can't send the play into town because nobody can read my writing. You spoke of doing the play at the Mercury next autumn, but of possibly touring it in America next spring. You asked me about various possible plays of mine to accompany it. We spoke first of a dance play called 'A Full Moon in March' but in the end I think both you and Speaight inclined for the 'Player Queen'. I said if the Player Queen were done in England I would ask to have Margot Collis tried for the part of the principal character. You asked me if she would go to America. I said I thought not, but when I spoke to her about it she said she would", one page, folding marks, light creasing, folio, Riversdale, Willbrook, Rathfarnham, Dublin, 8 December 1936.
