A VERY FINE ANTIQUE SOUF SILK KASHAN PRAYER RUG, CENTRAL PERSIA

Approx: 203cm. x 127cm. Great example for this type with beautifully drawn design of large floral vase with central Tree of Life together with birds. Border with linked birds and animal cartouches between floral meander, arrow-head and barber-pole stripes. Very good colour combination. Souf technique has been used consisting of flat weave field and border and raised pile design woven upon, resulting in three dimetional effect. The pile is full, very soft and shiny silk quality, No structural damage or wear. The rug is vey soft in touch. Selvages original. Ends with original kilim and fringes. Very fine weave, approx: 9 x 8 knots per sq. cm; woven on silk foundation. In general, this rug is in very good condition throughout. Very attractive and seldom found type in sales. Sought after on the market.
