A POLYCHROME-PAINTED IZNIK-STYLE SAMSON POTTERY VASE AND DISH
France, late 19th - early 20th century
Comprising a vase in the shape of a traditional mosque lamp, resting on a short splayed foot, the bulbous body rising to tapering shoulders and a wide everted conical neck with circular rim, painted in red, cobalt blue and green outlined in black against a white ground, the decorative framework comprising the typical repertoire of Ottoman Iznik wares, including saz leaves, tulips and rosette sprays, the base stamped with the maker's mark, 32cm high; and a similar dish, decorated with a five-pointed star in the centre filled with vegetal trellis and flower heads, the base also stamped, 28.5cm diam.
