AN ANTIQUE AKSTAFA RUG, EAST CAUCASUS

The light terracotta field with two large stepped medallions containing vsrious angular and hooked panels surrounded by stylised birds, hooked octagons, hooked bars and small angular and floral motifs. In an ivory border of multicoloured hooked panels between hooked S-motif and arrowhead stripes. Outer barber-pole stirpes, approx: 5ft.10in. x 3ft.3in.(178cm. x 99cm.) Very good example for this type. Good colour combination and well drawn detailed design. This rug has slight wear to the top pile, Few small old repairs on edges, well blended. Possibly reduced in length. Selvages rebound. Ends with tiny loss to the guard stripes, both have short fringes which are secured. In general this rug is in very good usable conditon . Attrctive and sought after type.
