A GROUP OF FIVE ÇANAKKALE POTTERY VESSELS
Çanakkale, Ottoman Turkey, 19th century

Comprising three pottery ewers, each of bulbous shape, resting on a flat circular base, rising to a tapering tall neck, enhanced with the typical animal-headed spout and intertwined handle, two covered in green glaze and one in white with green splashes, each with painted floral sprays and moulded applied rosettes and vegetal garlands, the tallest 39.5cm high; a similar amber-coloured jug, with brown and yellow splashes, and decorated with an applied leafy palmette just below the spout, 15.5cm high; and a small deep rounded bowl, resting on a splayed circular foot, with an everted cusped rim, covered in white glaze with copper green and manganese brown splashes, 9.5cm high and 19cm diam.
