BARON CHARLES-ARTHUR BOURGEOIS (FRENCH, 1838-1886): A BRONZE FIGURE OF AN EGYPTIAN MALE DANCER the semi-clad figure playing the triangle, raised on a naturalistic circular base signed ARTHUR BOURGEOIS, mid brown patination, 62cm high Arthur Bourgeois is highly regarded for his Oriental themed pieces such as the present bronze. His most famous work is Le Charmeur de Serpent, exhibited at the Salon in 1864. This model was later produced in numerous different sizes and is often paired with Le Chasseur de Crocodile. Baron Bourgeois began his career studying at the École des Beaux Arts in 1857 under Duret and Guillaume and was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1863. Related Literature: P.
