AN ANTIQUE AFSHAR RUG, SOUTH-WEST PERSIA

The shaded rust field with stylised Gulfarang motfis of bold multicoloured floral bouquets together with various angular floral motfs. In an ivory narrow border of palmettes and serrated leaves vine between ribbon and barber-pole stripes. Narrow panel skirt at each end, approx: 5ft. x 4ft.5in.(152cm. x 135cm.) Very good overall design, more associated witjh north-west Persian weaving, good colour combinaton and well drawn motfs. This rug has slightly corroded black and slight localized wear to the pile, down to knot collar in places. Selvages secured. Ends with short fringes, very slightly fraying. In general this rug is in good usable conditon. Despite imperfection this rug still reatins elegant design. Good type.
