A fine late 19th century Burmese silver casket or box, Rangoon circa 1890
Of rectangular form with a hinged lid with an over hanging edge. The lid finely embossed with a jataka figural scene of a ceremony, the seated figure pouting libations before an audience of genuflecting personages, all against architraves and hangings reserved within a strapwork cartouche and foliate scrolls. The lid otherwise with a concave band of chased foliate scrolls between meandering bands edged with a border of shaped cartouches. The sides with embossed vignettes of depicting various jataka scenes all reserved the same.
