A BLUE AND WHITE IZNIK-STYLE DAMASCUS POTTERY DISH
Ottoman Syria, 17th century

Of shallow rounded shape, resting on a short straight foot, rising to a gently everted rim, the body painted in cobalt blue and black outlines against a white ground, the interior decorated with saz leaves, carnations, hyacinth stems and a large composite lotus flower spraying from a halved rosette, possibly inspired by the Iznik Quatre Fleurs pattern, encircled within thin black rules, the rim decorated with rosettes, buds and foliage, the exterior with roundels and floral designs, 30cm diam.
